As I dust off the old keyboard, it dawns on me that I haven’t posted on my blog in over a year. That realization is not okay. So much has changed. So much has happened and I have so much to share. Even if my readership is low, this blog has been a great space for me to enhance my writing skills, get my thoughts out there in the universe and run with my ideas.

Let me get you up to speed on the last two months, everything else I will do in a year recap coming next month. Yes, you’ll have to wait a little longer for some huge updates, but in the meantime, I promise, I will give you something now and a few posts until the yearly recap.

Set that clock to September 2017. It’s Labor Day and David (yes, he’s still around) and I are far from laboring. My fiance (David) *squeals* (see I’ll sprinkle some fun facts now and again) and I we’re on the long journey to Charlotte, North Carolina! With job offers in hand, we knew it was the right choice to make the move. We’re 2 hours away from my folks in Asheville. Closer to the mountains, have countless breweries in our backyard and are loving this slower pace of life.

Since starting our new life in Charlotte. I started working at Greater Matthews Habitat for Humanity and I am the newly appointed Director of Development. I build relationships, find sponsorships and advocate and educate our community. It’s so different from the lobbyist life I had in DC, but I love how the impact is true and everlasting.

A little over a month ago, we jumped on another awesome opportunity and got a pup! Jaxx is our new bundle of joy and we couldn’t be more happy with her. Our mornings are consumed by running with her and snuggling up with coffee. Jaxx is so much fun and a ball of energy. She loves being outdoors and she was even featured in our engagement photos!

I’m still teaching spin class and loving it. I found a newly opened studio: Ride or Die and I am teaching every chance I get!

Charlotte has been good to us for our first few months. I can’t wait to see what this new adventure brings us. Stay tuned for more deets and what’s to come. I’m happy to be back, y’all!

good people

performing random acts of kindness

There are “good people” left in the world. That’s such a blanket statement, but let me tell you about these so called good people.

I come back from a meeting and I have an emailing waiting for me in my inbox from a good friend of mine. Let’s call her Madison. The email is titled, “So this was my morning…..” Needless to say with a subject like that, I opened the email immediately. Much to my surprise, the email was talking about Madison’s woes of a Thursday morning. All said and done, she was locked out of her apartment with her dog. Madison had 6% battery left and wasn’t wearing shoes. She managed to call a locksmith and her boss before her phone died, putting her off to a pretty good start this morning. Finally, 30 minutes later, the locksmith came and rather than unlocking her car, he noticed a shivering dog with a frozen girl not wearing shoes in 30 degree weather. Without any questions, he opened the backdoor of the house.

This is the part where the nice people come in.

Madison tried to pay the locksmith, but he refused to accept payment. Rather than her paying, he wrote down that he performed an auto unlock, which was covered by her insurance. His fatherly ways took over as he yelled at Madison to get inside before she caught a cold.

Sure, the story was hilarious to read, but that’s not the point. The point is there are always people out there who do things for the greater good. When you need a little pick me up the most, there they are—waiting for you. I hope you take this story and realize that you’re one of those good people left in the world, too. Today, I challenge you to perform a random act of kindness.

boomer’s winter

Here’s yet again another guest blog post. I like to have guest posts featured by different people to show new perspectives, outlooks and different personalities. Get ready for it! Without much introduction, the following is a guest blog post by the one and only: Ann Marie! Most of you know her as Ann Marie, while others know her as Mrs. Franck. But, even less get to refer to her as mama! Without more of an introduction, I will let her take it away!

Hi! This is “Mom” as I am sometimes called or Ann Marie as Kendal so lovingly refers to me. I am honored to be the guest blogger today, or maybe not so much since Kendal informed me that she made a promise to herself to write a blog each day for a year and it sounded like she ran out of things to say…if one can actually believe boomer

Kendal mentioned how totally worn out Boomer looked as he sprawled out under the Christmas tree after he came in from supervising Joel’s shoveling after the big storm.  In case you aren’t aware, Boomer loves to be outside, especially in cold weather. Winter is his favorite season especially when it snows. Often it is hard to get him to come back in the house as he loves to make dog angels in the snow and run through the snow as it flies out of the snow blower chute. Supervising Joel as he snow blows is Boomer’s number one job. Sometimes the most demanding job is being the sidekick!  So is being sneaky enough to scope out each present that Kendal placed under the tree and discerned that none of them are for him. I sure hope that Kendal told Santa Paws that Boomer will be waiting patiently for his present come Christmas Eve.  An early Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night from me (and Boomer).

a happy heart

it’s all you can ask for

This morning I woke up to an email from the one and only, Ann Marie (that’s my mom!). She wrote email that was simple, sweet and to the point. She sent it to Joel, Lauren and me (that’s my fam). The e-mail read: This really makes your heart happy! Enjoy your day everyone and know you are loved!

After reading this email I was very intrigued by what was in the link. Watch this video and you will understand. Life is filled with simple joys. They are joys that we cannot explain and that’s okay. You will encounter these simplicities and all you can do is smile, so smile. Stop what you are doing and just take it all in. We need a slow-down in our daily lives. We get so caught up in life, that we don’t see that the little things are what is most important. Like Ann Marie said, know you are loved and enjoy your day.
